I am so proud of myself right now. Yesterday, I went to the local Open Mic Night!
I haven’t been to Open Mic since the one in March, which was one of the things that caused me to get worse. Although I’ve been feeling better in myself (but still not physically better), I wasn’t ready to go back just yet. That was until Ben, one of my friends, messaged me saying him and his band were there. They hadn’t been in a few months and I hadn’t seen them for ages. My mum suggested that instead of them coming up to me, why didn’t I go down for a few minutes to see them. Those few minutes soon turned into a few hours and how they flew by!
Not only did I go, but I sang too. Usually, I sing and play guitar, but my skin is still too sensitive for me to play, as the guitar would touch my stomach, and I’m no longer strong enough to pick it up. I wasn’t planning on singing, but one of my friends who was there persuaded me to, so I did. I sang with Rick, one of the house band’s guitarists, playing guitar at first and performed Semisonic’s ‘Closing Time’. Half-way through, I forgot the words, but we all just laughed about it. A group of my friends and I also did ‘Santa Baby’ as a make-shift band, even though we had never all played together and so had never practised. It was such a great evening. Probably the best one this year!
