Happy New Year! It’s already 2019. What happened to 2018? It flew by! I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. I just stayed in bed. Can you think of a better way to celebrate the New Year?

People always say “New Year, New Me”, but that’s not really true, is it? If you started again completely, you wouldn’t know any of what you do now, so you would probably just make the same mistakes again. A better phrase would be “A New Year, a more positive me.” That just about sums up what my goal for this year will be. Negative emotions just seem to drag me down, so I should just make peace with them and not let them bother me so much.
My New Year’s Eve
On New Year’s Eve – well, about 20 seconds into 2019 – I finished reading How To Be Human: The Manual by Ruby Wax. This opened up my eyes to how peaceful life could actually be if I stopped getting caught up in emotions. I’ve been trying mindfulness for about 6 months now, but I never realised how powerful it can be. I also found the book fascinating from an aspiring doctor’s point of view. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is even remotely human!
This year, I’m not making a resolution, I never do, but I am going to take mindfulness more seriously. I always get caught up in thought. I never actually have a minute to myself, as my brain always interrupts me. I’m going to do everything I can to actually live my life. I’m not going to rush to do things that have no time limit. My life will be lived to the full, albeit one step at a time.
